Educational needs at primary or post-primary school, and third level education to do with learning, emotional, behavioural, and social adjustment can be discussed (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, underachievement, executive function disorder, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders).
The approach to assessment is consistent with practice guidelines for registered psychologists who are members of the National Educational Psychological Service Panel of Psychologists.
Liaison with teachers and/or school based observation/assessment can be part of the consultation process.
Educational Needs Assessment
Educational needs assesment provides estimates of strengths and weaknesses in areas of intellectual, emotional, or behavioural functioning and educational achievement levels. This forms a basis for educational planning, such as a need for additional educational support to that ordinarily provided in the classroom, resource materials that may be suitable for an individual, and eligibility for accommodations or exemptions.
Initial findings are discussed immediately on completion of the various psychometric tests which provide data collated for preparation of a written report that contains details of measures used, test results, interpretation of findings, opinion and recommendations for educational planning.
